Record Store Day 20th April 2013
Just in-case you are all at a loss as to what to do today why not pop along to Berwick Street and buy yourself something black and shiny ;)
Berwick Street to celebrate Record Store Day on April 20th 2013.
Berwick Street Soho, known as ‘The Golden Mile of Vinyl’, will be celebrating Record Store Day on Saturday 20 April. As well as exclusive vinyl and CD releases available from the independent record stores on the day, there will be bands and DJs performing live throughout the day, a street food market and a vinyl fair.PRESS RELEASE - Berwick Street Celebrates Record Store Day
The independent vinyl and record stores of Berwick Street Soho are joining forces on Saturday 20 April to celebrate Record Store Day.
Berwick Street has been a destination for vinyl record collectors since the 1980s when it became known as ‘The Golden Mile of Vinyl’. This corner of Soho is still home to central London’s largest concentration of thriving independent record shops; Reckless Records, Sister Ray and The Music and Video Exchange as well as Sounds of the Universe around the corner on Broadwick Street, Black Market Soho on D’Arblay Street and Phonica on Poland Street.
On Record Store Day music lovers will head to Berwick Street for exclusive vinyl and CD releases and to enjoy live music, bands and DJs performing throughout the area. Berwick Street will be showcasing a range of British music talent from 12-7pm including a special appearance from a cult rock band and a punk/folk singer-songwriter as well as an eclectic mix of solo artists, bands and DJs across all genres from reggae to electronica.
The shops, pubs and restaurants will also be getting into the spirit; expect DJs in store, music quizzes and in-store parties. The iconic Berwick Street market will be open as usual with flowers, fruit and vegetable traders as well as street food including Napoli style pizzas served by the Pizza Pilgrims from the back of a converted Piaggio van. For one day only the market will feature a music history experience from The Museum of Soho and a vinyl fair.
Berwick Street has a strong music heritage and many associations with the industry. It was the location for the cover shoot of the 1995 Oasis album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ (as seen in the window of Reckless Records). Ian Brown cycled backwards down Berwick Street in the music video for F.E.A.R. and T-Rex front man Marc Bolan worked on his mum’s stall on Berwick Street market in the 1960s.*
Berwick Street is a vibrant urban community with a rich heritage in the heart of London’s Soho. Discover traditional London pubs, bespoke tailoring, textiles, vintage, food, fashion and of course independent record stores. Berwick Street is London for Londoners.

Record Store Day was established in 2007 when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their unique culture. The UK followed suit and 2013 will see the sixth celebration of the UK’s unique independent sector. This is the one day that independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day.

The Buzz @ The Soundhaus - Northampton 2002
I was just dong a little searching on the internet today and found this article on the BBC website about The Buzz club night circa 2002. Enjoy!

There's a buzz in Town
Continuing our quest to seek-out the best weekend club nights in the county, we take a wash and brush-up, and head out to investigate what The Buzz is all about!
Grasping the handle of the large silver door fronting The Soundhaus, we give it a tug open. The weather on this Friday evening is not the most forgiving; especially when you’re ‘dressed to impress’. Shuffling inside, we are greeted by the smiling face of Rob Glover, The Buzz founder and now co-organiser of one of the hottest club nights in the county.
Getting the introductions out of the way, Rob points us into one of the two rooms that are already playing some fine tunes, and it’s still only 9 o-clock. He gathers his partner, and we gather our thoughts - and questions, and all head down to the basement.
It’s already clear to see that these guys have what it takes to make this happen. Even despite seven years of experience under their belts, this night was bound to work. Looking sharp, and sounding passionate about their whole love affair for dancing, music, and of cause, the ladies, The Buzz has all the right elements a good night needs.

"We want people to enjoy themselves," states Rob, "and to have danced all night long."
In fact, nothing is left to chance during the night. Rob, along with fellow organiser Mike Greener, takes every detail into consideration. From the flyers you pick up in the shops, to the ‘goodbye’ you receive on your way home.
Mike explains, "There’s nothing worse than feeling unwelcome when you enter a club. And most of that comes down to the bouncers. We want doormen to open the door, and greet people as they come in."
So, where did all this start? Rob remembers, "The first ever Buzz was in the backroom of the Racehorse...back in 1995."
Since its humble beginnings all those years ago, The Buzz has travelled far and wide to reach a variety of audiences, well, to Coventry anyway! Other venues have included The Dog and Duck, in Wellingborough, and a small room in Kettering, which both guys agree, "was a funky little place."
Making a difference
Trying to host something not available anywhere else, The Buzz manages to play a collection of songs not on offer at your regular nights out. Four DJ’s tease you with half-an-hour sets, each playing a mixture of funk, soul, groove, Motown, northern soul and indie. Rob states, "It keeps them on their toes," about his reasons for having shorter, rather than longer sets.
The whole aim of The Buzz is to get people up dancing. But that is not by requests. The music may be vital to the flavour of the night, but there’s no debate about what is played.
Mike states, "We’ll change the night around if something’s not going well, but if you don’t like the music then you can leave."
Despite its ‘rigid within reason’ music policy, the night is open to anyone who wants to come down and dance. The whole thing is clearly set up to welcome everyone and anyone through the doors.
Something must be working somewhere indeed, with The Buzz now resident at not only The Soundhaus, Northampton, but The Basement club in Wellingborough.
After wrapping up our chat about the reasons for why this night has worked so well, we all return to the ground floor to experience the vibe for ourselves.
Let’s just say from this moment on, recollection is a little hazy, and my head took some time to recover. That, we declare, is a good night!

Baby-Mods
Well, that was sure an interesting morning.
I have just spent 5 hours in an intensive care baby unit working on some IT thingy for work. That's not the interesting bit. The interesting bit is that I just happened to spend my morning surrounded by about 40 new born babies all in various states of action/incation/crying/thumb-sucking whatever which I am sure you will agree is a very surreal and interesting situation.
The most interesting thing of all though is that whilst I was working on the IT thingy for work my mobile phone went off! Now being an intensive care unit for babies I really should have remembered to turn the blasted thing off, but I didn't, sorry. Anyhow, as my mobile phone blasted out 30 repeated seconds of "Burts Apple Crumble - The Quick" (it's my ringtone for the boss, it reminds me to get a bloomin' move on) I swear to all the gods that every one of those babies stopped crying/thumb-sucking whatever and stared in my direction as I fumbled to try and turn the damn thing off before I got a serious bollocking form the the ward sister. Never in my life have I every been so intimidated by a room full of infants before.
I have to go back tomorrow now as the job didn't go to well and I'm changing the ring-tone to "Tin Soldier" just to see...

Today's Soundtrack
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again
Released 18 November 1967
Track Listing
Bizarre as it seems but I had never taken the time to properly listen to this album until today. I guess that's what makes music so exciting especially when you discover something truly amazing. "Mr. Soul" has that perfect garage-rock killer beat and fuzz sound that just sets your feet moving. However "Good Time Boy" could have been put together by a Muscle Shoal producer it really it a true up-tempo soul mover, blimey.
That's not the say the rest of the album isn't full of stunning west psych-folk-groovers.

Ding Dong, THE BITCH is DEAD!
Wow, I can't believe it's finally happened.
I have been waiting for this day since THE BITCH fucked up this country and pretty much everybody's working class life in the 80's and turned us all in to money-grabbing self centred, selfish fuckers who would gladly sell off everything we owned for a few quid, only to have it then re-owned by the wankers who fucked this country up in the first place.
Sorry but if you were and are a council-house TORY, FUCK YOU!
Let's look at her 80's highlights shall we:
Anyhow time to celebrate me thinks, where is that bottle of champers...

Let's look at her 80's highlights shall we:
- Unemployment well over 3 million.
- Big cities especially in the north left to rot.
- Cuts in public services.
- Schools in a shit state unless you went private.
- Several boom and bust recessions.
- Northern Ireland a fucking mess due to Thatcher never wanting to negotiate.
- Interest rates at 15%
- British manufacturing decimated.
Anyhow time to celebrate me thinks, where is that bottle of champers...
What's The Buzz Radio Show: Radio show A-Go-Go.
Got this little on-line radio show that I put together and post up every now and again. It is a real mix-up and sometime I even invite some of my buddies to come along and spin some tunes.
It sure beats listening to the same old crap day in day out.
Anyhow I'll post up here and you can listen or not...
Just click the link :> http://www.mixcloud.com/robglover67/

So it begins...
Well were do i start. This is a bit of a new thing for me. Yeah I have started websites and bloggs before, but usually for a club night I was trying to promote or some event or other. This time I have decided to do it for myself. Kass (my beautiful wife and soul partner for the last 25 years) has always been saying it's about time I did something for myself and I guess this time I feel she is right.
I've been promoting club nights and organizing events since I was about 15. A bunch of us young (mods) used to hang around a youth club called Lodge Farm in the early 1980's in Loughborough, which is a small (HICK) town in Leicestershire, about 9 miles from the capital and only spitting distance from Nottingham and Derby. You could say we were stuck in the heart of England, and didn't we know it. It was the sort of place you could guarantee a punch-up every Friday or Saturday day/night with either a bunch of Skins or a bunch of sodding casual's. I guess in the early 80's everywhere was pretty much the same.
Anyhow, this story will continue here and I will also post up my my daily rants and observations plus anything else that springs to mind. I'm not saying it will be a modern classic but it will be an interesting journey.
